Pine Floorboard Restoration in Purley, Surrey.
Last week I worked in Purley, and restored some very old-looking pine floorboards that had never been sanded before. First of all, I went around all of the floorboards to make sure that any squeaks were dealt with. This would usually be achieved by banging in the existing floor-brads a little further into the timber, or by putting some screws in place. The customer was keen to have the gaps between the boards filled, so I then used reclaimed pine slivers to fill the gaps, as resin filler generally ends up dropping through, and doesn’t usually stay in place. Doing this is very time consuming, firstly, strong wood glue needs to be poured into the gaps so that it coats the sides of the boards, a pine sliver is then hammered into the gap (the slivers are wedge-shaped and pointy on one side, to get between the boards). Once they are in place and the glue has dried, I then go around with a multi-tool, and I cut the parts of the slivers off that are sticking out above the boards. This is then followed by a full, dust-free sand, followed by a coat of Bona primer, and two coats of Bona Traffic Go varnish. As you can see from the pictures, I got an excellent result.
